Govt. Pay

With the economy in the tank, unemployment in double digits, cuts in wages for many still working, and many people struggling to provide for their families, I find the federal government's behavior disturbing.
While it is true that it held down expenses by keeping 2010 Social Security payments at last year's level, federal employees did receive pay increases. The 2011 federal budget, just released by Mr. Obama, again calls for federal wage increases. Congress gets automatic wage increases every year unless they vote against them.
USA Today recently reported that government salaries are running way ahead of those in the private sector. It indicated that, during the first 18 months of the recession, federal employees making more than $100,000 per year rose from 14 percent to 19 percent of the government work force. Also, during that same period of time, the Department of Transportation went from one to 1,690 employees making more than $170,000.
Do you think they really feel our pain?
