Goshen's wrestling team hammered Warsaw 49-19.ÊThe "roller-coaster" season continues as the young Tigers were able to come up with only four wins by decision on the night, along with one forfeit.

The Redskins rumbled through the evening with six pins, an overtime decision and one forfeit.

Warsaw's Kris Hueber (215 pounds), state-ranked at No. 3, was upset by Jeremy Preis 4-2 in overtime.

The first win for the Tigers came at 140 pounds when David Sumpter fought out a 10-9 win over Frank Guzman. Sumpter nailed an opening takedown and then scored a second takedown at buzzer ending period one. In the second period, Sumpter scored another takedown and then a reversal with eight seconds remaining. In the third period, the Tiger appeared to be running out of gas, and Goshen's Guzman was awarded points for stalling twice, but Sumpter held out for the narrow victory.

Anthony Boley (103) lost a tough match to Gerardo Quiroz, ranked No. 5 in the state.Ê Through most of the first period young Boley appeared somewhat intimidated but then scored a two-point reversal. In the second period, Boley came out with more confidence, pulling a Granby roll for an escape and then scoring a take-down. Quiroz fought back in round three with a reversal and a three-point nearfall to win the match in an 12-3 major decision.

The next four Tigers were the victims of Goshen pins: Tanner Connealy (112), Chris Riley (119), Adam Bott (130) and Trenton Plummer (135).Ê

Plummer, a freshman, had the difficult duty of facing No. 1-ranked Schuyler Barkes. Plummer fought off Barkes' attacks three times, but was finally squashed in 36 seconds.Ê Next came the win by Sumpter, but Julio Reyes (145) and Nick McKinley (151) were also pinned and the team score was an insurmountable 46-3 in favor of Goshen.

Isaac Perry (160) controlled Nick Miller for an 8-3 Tiger win.Ê Richard Wolfe (171) looked strong against Caleb Coblentz but simply could not put him away and had to settle for a 13-4 major decision. Sophomore Tyler Miller (189) came up with a 2-0 decision over Mark Ulfig but then Kris Hueber (215) suffered his sombering overtime upset.

Finally Joey Navarro was awarded a forfeit at 275, and the Tigers sullenly headed for their team meeting. The gist of coaches' comments was that "Goshen is not 30 points better than us, we simply failed in fundamentals and we were not hungry as a team."

The Tigers will regroup and head to Northwood for the season'sÊ final NLC dual competition, Wednesday evening.Ê Saturday's NLC Tournament at Warsaw concludes the regular season.
