In your Google search you can also type a question in your search bar such as “Did Jacob Mann live in Virginia between 1800 and 1870?” When your search results come back, you can look for key words such as the parent’s name or spouse’s name of the ancestor you are listed in some of the search results.
When searching you can also make a keyword list from your results. Such as what city and county in Virginia you find that the ancestor actually lived in Virginia. When you type the question in the search bar and come up with lots of results you can try restating your question. If you use the advanced search option you can also change your search options to make it exact name variations; it will also let you do option of names to be associated with the city. There are lots of different limits and options that can help you narrow down your results.
Genealogy is a repeatable process. You will feel like you have exhausted all the research options on a particular ancestor. Until one day while looking at search results for this ancestor’s brother you come across some tips for information you never knew before.
So again you will go through the steps of research to first write down what you already know, then second to decide what information you want to gain, third you will need to choose what resources you will use to find this information whether it be from compiled records, original records or background information, of the ancestor you are researching.
There are so many different ways that a person can use Google or a search engine for researching their family tree. I will continue this topic next week also.
