Dear Aspiring Golf Caddie:
You have made a wise decision to consider caddying at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.  If you didn’t know already, TLCC is blessed with members and employees, young and old, who are worth getting to know. I say this not necessarily because I know they will be reading this, or because I want a higher tip from them when I caddy again this summer, but because over the years these people have become my friends, not just people that I work for. Caddying at Tippy is a truly fun experience that can really pay high dividends in the end, with the Evans Scholarship.

My name is Scott Smyth, and I am the first and only Evans Scholar to come out of Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. The Evans Scholarship is a prestigious college scholarship program designed specifically for golf caddies.

This full-ride tuition and housing scholarship was the brainchild of Chick Evans, one of the best and most influential golfers of all time. Although Chick has passed away, his dream of sending caddies to college is still alive and well today. Through the efforts of the Western Golf Association, and its numerous programs and members, the Evans Scholarship is sending caddies to college for free all across the nation.

There is no doubt in my mind that you can be one of those caddies going to college for free, too. All you need to qualify is good grades, financial need, and a strong caddying record. You may be pessimistic just as I was when I learned about the Evans Scholarship, but don’t worry. Believe it or not, I did not think I could win this scholarship either when I started caddying at Tippy. I did not know a thing about golf when I started! However, with a little hard work, and a lot of help from the members and staff of TLCC, I quickly learned the tricks of the trade. As you will learn, caddying is a fun experience that is a good source of income as well as a wonderful opportunity to network and learn valuable social skills.

Many start caddying one summer, but few follow through to the end and actually apply for the scholarship. Let me just tell you, it is well worth the effort to follow through. I am in my first year at Purdue University studying engineering, living in the Evans Scholars Scholarship House, and I do not have to pay anything to the university. Not many people can say that, but I can thanks to my decision to caddie at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. The hard work that I put in for three summers paid off for me, and it can do the same for you.

Starting your caddying career is the first step! All you need to do is call Nick Marucci or Paul Kornfeind at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club at 574-453-4441 and request a caddy application. I look forward to seeing you this summer!
