NORTH WEBSTER – Glenn D. Butler, 91, Leesburg, passed away at 1:33 a.m. March 20, 2014, at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Elkhart to William F. and Bessie F. Fultz Butler. On Aug. 8, 1947, in California on the “Bride and Groom” radio program he married Shirley J. Black, who preceded him in death Jan. 20, 2012.
He was a lifetime northern Indiana resident, graduated in 1943 from Elkhart High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp as a bomber pilot. He continued to fly as a fighter pilot until 1972 for the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard.
He retired in 1992 from Fairmont Homes as a warranty repair worker. He was a pilot for several small corporations. He was a member of the North Webster Church of God and American Legion Post #253 in North Webster.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandy (and spouse Jim) Harris, North Webster; a son, Gary (and spouse Connie) Butler, Goshen; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the church officiating. Burial is in the Mock Addition of North Webster Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post $253.
