She was born Jan. 3, 1920, to Joseph J. and Emily Kretschmer Smrt. On May 18, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., she married George E. Zitek, who preceded her in death.
She was an executive secretary for The Electrical Contractors Association, headquartered in Chicago, retiring in 1977. She and George resided in the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly for many happy years prior to moving to Grace Village, Winona Lake, in December 1999.
Auntie Gladys is survived by a sister, Dorothy M. Bailey, Winona Lake; a sister-in-law, Margaret (and spouse Joe) Gregory, Florida; and her extended family including: Herb and Anne Bailey, Warsaw; Herb and Sarah Bailey and children Mandy and Emily; Heidi and Gary Leininger and children Josie and Jules; Penny Bailey Grogan and Scott Bailey and children Ian and Hannah; as well as many other nephews, nieces and grand- and great-grandnephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Lorraine Smrt.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
