NORTH MANCHESTER - G.L. "Grandpa Fish" Hively, 96, of North Manchester, died at 12:52 p.m. March 18, 2007, in his daughter's residence in Roann.
He was born Sept. 11, 1910, in Crown Point, to William and Josie Croft Hively. He married Irene Marshall, who preceded him in death. On July 16, 1971, he married Bernice Moser, who died March 30, 1999.
He attended Laketon School and received a mechanical degree from Hammond Tech College. He was a window dresser; worked for Ford Motor Co., Chicago, Ill.; drove a marrow truck; was a crane operator and a road grader; a beekeeper of 300 hives; General Tire, Wabash; drove tankers for Laketon Refinery; worked at Cyclone Seeder, Urbana; was a highway flagman; made cement posts at Stockdale; was a farmer, trapper and mule trainer; worked in sales at Hively manufacturing, Roann; and was an ambassador for his son's company, which designed and produced Hi-Way farrowing stalls, hog feeders, gestation stalls, nursery decks and other miscellaneous hog equipment. He retired after 19 years of service in sales. He attended Liberty Mills United Methodist Church. He spent winters in Avon Park, Fla., for 20 years.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Hively, Wabash, and Lawrence Hively, Roann; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Joann) Zinstmaster, Roann; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Tom (Janice) Moser, Leckrone; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with the Revs. Ed French and Joan Deeter officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
