In an email from Girod Wednesday, Girod said his 89-year-old mother's health is diminishing and he wants to focus his time to assist her.
There will be an election to elect his successor in the near future.
Girod was first elected by precinct committeemen to serve as chairman in March 2009. He replaced former chairman Aaron Rovenstine, who served in the position for two four-year terms. Girod ran for the seat against Jeremiah Heierman, according to a March 9, 2009, Times-Union story.
Girod served as prosecuting attorney from 1990 to 1994, the story indicates, and has lived in Kosciusko County for over 30 years.
