Giant Lobster is Catch of the Day

A local restaurant owner and his wife went to Boston for a two-day vacation and returned with an 11-pound lobster.
Jose Espinoza, owner and operator of Redwood Firewood Grill and Bar, located at 2604 Sheldon St., Warsaw, said when he and his wife, Heather, were in Boston Sunday through Tuesday morning, they stopped to eat at a local restuarant and seafood wholesaler. They decided to also bring home an 11-pound lobster to offer at Redwood.
“It is a very rare lobster,” Espinoza said. “You don’t get them every day.”
The average lobster, he said, is between one and three pounds.
So, Espinoza said, the lobster was packed with seaweed and ice inside a cooler and the pair flew home with it Tuesday morning.
The Boston wholesaler had flown the lobster in from Nova Scotia, Canada, where catch and release laws are less stringent.
Espinoza said he plans to boil the lobster and prepare it for a specific customer who plans spend between $300 and $400 today or Thursday enjoying it at the restaurant.
He said the preparation he recommends for a lobster this size is the Lobster Savannah, a lobster stuffed with giant scallops and giant shrimp. The lobster would be nearly 15 pounds after it is stuffed.
Anyone interested in purchasing a lobster this size can give Redwood a week’s notice to allow for shipping, Espinoza said. Expense for shipping would be included in the final price.
