He was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Fort Wayne, to Alvin and Ethel Thacker Koontz. On June 20, 1952, he married Carole Manges, who survives.
A lifetime Bourbon and Tippecanoe area resident, he was retired, formerly owning Koontz & King Excavating, Bourbon, for 40 years, and co-owner of River Ridge Inc. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years.
Also surviving are five children: Michael Koontz and Ann Harrell, both of Bourbon; James Koontz, Tippecanoe; Julie Shaw, Lafayette; and Lisa (and spouse Charles) Dubert, Etna Green; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Melba (and spouse Mack) Fetters, Bourbon, and Carol (and spouse Fred) Ames, Union Mills; and a brother, Alvin Eugene (and spouse Marilee) Koontz, Fort Wayne.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with the Rev. Bill Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
