He was born March 8, 1933, in Oakwood, Ohio, to Ray and Elsie May Hornish. On Jan. 31, 1954, in Oakwood, he married Betty Cromly, who died June 19, 2007. On Jan. 23, 2010, in Eustis, Fla., he married Karen Warstler, who survives.
He graduated from Oakwood High School in 1951 and Tri State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned Nappanee Wood Products from 1967-84. He was a member of Living Gospel Church, Nappanee, Gideon’s International and Nappanee American Legion. He also was a past president and member of Nappanee Noon Kiwanis. He served on the Nappanee Library Board, the park board and was named 1982 Chamber Citizen of the Year. For seven years after retirement he was a member of Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service, doing volunteer work in the south.
Also surviving are three daughters: Debra (and spouse David) Anewalt, Greensburg; Tammy (and spouse Rick) Oser, Indianapolis; and Caryn (and spouse Dennis) Hershberger, Nappanee; a son, Scott (and spouse Jean) Hornish, Nappanee; stepchildren: Deborah (and spouse Max) Schmucker, Nappanee; Jackie (and spouse Mike) Mann, Granger; and Kerry Lamb, Valparaiso; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister Vivian Danz, Santa Clara, Calif. He also was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Living Gospel Church, Nappanee, with Pastor Mike Raasch officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery with military graveside services by members of Nappanee American Legion.
Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
