MILFORD - George D. Hatfield, 87, Burket, died at 11:10 p.m. Dec. 25, 2009, at Mason Health Care.

He was born May 8, 1922, in Warsaw, to Glenn and Ethel Davis Hatfield. On Oct. 22, 1946, he married Dona Jean Newcomb, his loving wife of 60 years, who survives.

He was a lifetime area resident. He retired from Sun Metal in Warsaw where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the Warsaw Elks, American Legion and the Burket United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the Army as a military police officer during World War II. He loved mushroom hunting, fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed going to garage sales as well as antique auctions. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was loved by all who knew him.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kim (and spouse Rick) Deniston, Warsaw; a son, Chip (and spouse Paula) Gast, Huntington; four grandchildren: Doug Yarian, Chad Silveus, Samira Gast and Charissa Gast; a great-grandchild, Nilsson Silveus; and a sister, Doris Breeding, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger; three sisters, Janice, Helen Hays and Elenor Doran.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Burket United Methodist Church, 102 S. Market St., Burket, with the Revs. Chip Gast and Greig Crowder officiating. Private burial will take place at Palestine Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Milford, is assisting the family.
