LEESBURG - A series of incidents starting with a drive-off at an area gas station sent a Leesburg man to jail.

At 11:33 a.m., an employee of Freedom Express, 201 S. Main St., Leesburg, noticed a man and and woman pumping gas. What made the clerk suspicious was that they left the doors of their vehicle, a dark green Pontiac Grand Am, open while fueling.

Instead of paying, the suspects drove off immediately. The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was called and the clerk was able to provide a description of both suspects as well as a receipt for the $23.23 in gas that was stolen.

At 12:03 p.m., a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on North Canal Street in Warsaw was received by dispatch. The suspects ran from their vehicle when approached by a neighbor.

Later, at 1:30 p.m., during a traffic stop at the intersection of Jefferson and Van Buren streets, officers located the suspects described in the previous incidents.

Tyron R. Bland, 21, of 202 S. Rowland Drive, Leesburg, and his 14-year-old sister, Destiny R. Bland, from Chicago were in a vehicle driven by Jennifer Moran.

Moran told officers that the suspects had asked for a ride so they could pick up another vehicle. Moran was not charged in the incident.

Tyron Bland attempted to hide his identification from officers and also attempted to flee but was subdued.

Bland was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail and charged with resisting/fleeing law enforcement, false reporting, theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His bond was set at $2,000.

Destiny R. Bland is listed as a runaway from Chicago and she was held at the sheriff's department until relatives were able to come and take her home.
