SYRACUSE - Garry L. Eyer, 75, of Syracuse, died at 2:15 a.m. July 29, 2010, at Goshen General Hospital.

He was born May 13, 1935, in Goshen, to Loren and Alma Pinkerton Eyer. On Sept. 28, 1958, in Syracuse, he married Gloria J. Hart, they later divorced but remained good friends. In August 1989, he then married Judy Decker Dickeson and they later divorced.

He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army and retired in 2000 after 24 years as a custodian for the Wawasee Community School Corp. at Syracuse Elementary. He formerly worked at Bud's Body Shop, Syracuse, for five years and Syracuse Rubber for 13 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 223, Syracuse. He attended Syracuse Church of God and formerly attended Calvary United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen (and spouse Jesse "Rick") Pena, Syracuse; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; a stepson, Justin (and spouse Amy) Dickeson, LaGrange; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and an infant sister.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Vince Wilczynski officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of American Legion Post 223, Syracuse.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
