Mike Garretson and Kim Hanson, both of Huntington, announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Garretson, Fort Wayne, to Kurt Bender, Fort Wayne. He is the son of John and Cheryl Bender, Avilla.

The bride-to-be is a registered nurse in Fort Wayne. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007.

The groom-elect is a network analyst with ITT Corp., Fort Wayne. He is a 1995 graduate of East Noble High School, and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, Fort Wayne, in 2006.

A May 4 wedding is planned.

Kathleen N. Anderson-Takacs, 84, of Pierceton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Kathy was born on Aug. 14, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Darwin and Jane Gibson. On April 17, 2004, she married Bill Takacs in Gatlinburg, Tenn., who survives.
