Bert and the former Mabel Cain were married before church April 24, 1938, at her parents’ residence near Etna Green by the Rev. Berlin T Yeager. After the ceremony they went to church and then returned for dinner with the family.
The couple met at Mt. Tabor Church of God, moved to Nappanee in 1939 and lived at 202 John St., Nappanee, for the next 73 years, where they maintained their business, raised their family and retired in the early 1980s. They were fortunate to spend 20 winters in the warmth of Bradenton, Fla., with many old and new friends.
Bert was in the grocery business for approximately 30 years, then worked at Wes Miller Insurance, Warsaw, for approximately 20 years.
Mabel was a homemaker, mother and retired from Ganshorn Printing, Syracuse.
They have two children, Jerry (and spouse Sue) Ganshorn and JoAnn (and spouse Allen) Barrett, all of Syracuse; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren,
The couple will celebrate their anniversary quietly at Waterford Crossing.
