He was born May 6, 1927, in Chester Township, Wabash County, to Howard A. and Lulu Sell Knecht. On Sept. 17, 1949, he married Lois C. Crist, who survives.
He graduated from Chester High School in 1945, where he played on the basketball team. He was a retired farmer, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Bippus.
Also surviving are three sons: Ty (and spouse Sonja) Knecht, Terry (and spouse Joanna) Knecht and Todd (and spouse Judy) Knecht, all of North Manchester; a daughter, Lynn (and spouse Gary) Huddleston, Wabash; a brother, Eldon (and spouse Avonne Lee) Knecht, North Manchester; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Larry Holderbaum officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Calling is today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
