He received his doctorate from Purdue University and is a professor of education at Grace College. She is a training specialist at Zimmer and has an associate's degree in business management and currently is pursuing her bachelor's degree.
The couple have three children: Mrs. Tim (Denise) Smith, Warsaw; David Gaerte, Detroit, Mich.; and Doug (and wife Stacy) Gaerte, Plainfield, Ill. They have four grandchildren.
