NORTH WEBSTER – Two fundraisers have been planned for North Webster resident Michael Karr, who has stage five renal kidney failure.
The first fundraiser is a free haunted house at Karr’s friend’s house, Michael Howell, 308 N. Main St., Milford, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted to assist with Karr’s expenses.
The second fundraiser for Karr’s expenses is Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. at Cromwell Community Center, 353 Baker St.
At the Nov. 2 fundraiser there will be free karaoke, a 50/50 raffle drawing, costume contest and other prizes. There also will be treats such as snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and drinks.
Karr, 37, found out last fall he had kidney failure. At this time he only has use of about 5 percent of his kidneys.
He attends dialysis treatments three days a week in Goshen, and is struggling financially because he is unable to work and is on a fixed income.
He has four children and is not able to work due to kidney failure. His four children are Ashley, 17, Adam, 16, Brittany, 15, and Christopher, 3.
Karr has full custody of his three oldest children and he is the sole provider for them. He also has to pay child support for his youngest child.
He graduated from  Wawasee High School in 1994, is a U.S. Army veteran and was a supervisor at Dutchman Manufacturing.
People who want to donate a kidney to Karr can call University Hospital at 800-382-4602.
