Fundraiser Set For Project Refuge Shelter

A fundraiser is being planned to help Project Refuge Homeless Shelter in Warsaw.

The fundraiser, titled "Fighting For The Homeless", will be Jan. 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. for black belts only, and Jan. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 10 and older. It will be at New Life Christian Church, 744 S. CR 325E, Warsaw, off U.S. 30.[[In-content Ad]]The cost for the Jan. 15 event is $30, and the cost for the Jan. 16 event is $70.

Martial artist "Superfoot" Bill Wallace will teach five basic steps for a kick and punch. Wallace is an undefeated Professional Karate Association martial art champion.

New Life Christian Church, Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association and Salvation Army opened the shelter Dec. 1, and it will continue until March 31 at different locations in the county.

The shelter has been housed this month at New Life Christian Church.

In January, Warsaw Community Church, 103 Enterprise Drive, will house the shelter.

In February, the shelter will be housed at Christ's Covenant Church, 2090 E. Pierceton Road.

In March, Salvation Army, 501 Arthur St., will house the shelter.

The only pick-up point for those who stay at the shelter this year is at Salvation Army at 7 p.m. each night. They are returned to Salvation Army at 7 a.m. each morning.

New Life Christian Church Pastor John Lowe said the shelter is housing approximately four people a night.

"The shelter is going well, and those who stay are cared for and can take a shower, have dinner, fellowship and a place to sleep," Lowe said.

Registration deadline for the fundraiser is Jan. 1.
