WINONA LAKE – An annual banquet fundraiser for Fellowship Missions is planned for March at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, Winona Lake.
The fundraiser, in its third year, this year is titled “A Night Of Hope and Inspiration.” It will be March 10 at the MOCC with co-author Ron Hall speaking.
A VIP reception will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and is $75 per person. This covers entry to the event, dinner, a silent auction and a chance to meet Hall and have him sign his book. For VIP tickets contact Fellowship Missions at 574-268-9555.
General admission is at 6:30 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m. The cost is $20 for tickets for adults and $10 for students. For general admission tickets, visit www.fellowshipmissions.net; Tree of Life Bookstore, 1104 Kings Highway, Winona Lake; or buy them at the door the night of the event.
Fellowship Missions is a homeless shelter for men, women and children at 1520 E. Winona Ave.
A men’s shelter opened in 2010 at 425 S. Buffalo St., and a shelter for children and women also opened in 2010 at 337 N. Buffalo St.
A newer shelter that houses men, women and children under one roof has been in operation since Sept. 25, 2014 on Winona Avenue.
The shelter is currently housing 44 men, women and children per night on average, according to Eric Lane, Fellowship Missions executive director.
Hall and Lane will speak at the general admission event.
Hall will speak about his book “Same Kind Of Different As Me.”
The book, based on a true story, is written about Denver Moore, a dangerous homeless drifter who grew up picking cotton in virtual slavery in the 1960s.
Hall was a successful art gallery owner who had a healthy bank account, but says emotionally, he was running on empty.
Although worlds apart, their destiny collided when Hall’s wife, Debbie, insisted Hall join her in serving food at a local homeless shelter.
As soon as she met Moore there, she had a vision that he would change the city and that her husband must befriend him.
The events that follow their chance meeting is featured in Hall’s New York Times best-selling book.
The encounter has been featured on CNN, Fox News and National Public Radio. The book also has been turned into a movie that is scheduled to be released April 29 by Paramount Pictures.
Lane said Hall’s story connects closely to a lot of volunteers’ stories at Fellowship Missions.
“It’s about getting involved and helping others,” Lane said. “The fundraiser is to tell how God is working through Fellowship Missions, but also to teach attendees it only takes one person to impact someone’s life.”
Event sponsors are Maple Leaf Farms, SYM Financial Advisors, Seymour Midwest and Tucker Family Foundation.[[In-content Ad]]
