Frog Tavern Owner Seeks Renewal Of Liquor Permit
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Mike Kaduk plans to sell the Frog Tavern and the Lilypad, both in Syracuse, to RKSL Restaurants in the near future.
The sale is dependent upon a beer wine and liquor permit renewal for The Frog.
Kaduk appeared before the Alcoholic Beverage Commission of Kosciusko County Thursday and the permit was renewed following discussion about two violations.
Gambling machines were found on the property on two occasions, in December 2005 and May of this year. The ABC has a policy of not renewing an alcoholic beverage permit if an establishment has three violations related to gambling.
"I'm just going to be blunt," said Board President Gordon Vanator. "How many times do we have to ask you not to have gambling machines?"
Kudak said he only had to be asked once.
"The machines are out as of May 8. The business is being sold. I'm not messing up this sale," he said.
RKSL Restaurants operates Main View Restaurants at South Shore Golf Course, Syracuse and North Manchester.
"It seems to be a northern Indiana problem that a business can't stay open without revenue from the machines," said excise officer John Barchak of the gambling machines.
Vanator said as a member of the board it bothered him that the board has to deal with the problem.
Kelly McClure of McClure Oil Corp., Silver Lake, appeared at the hearing for a new permit. She presented plans for a 1,900-square-foot mini-grocery that will be open 24 hours. The company wants to add beer and wine for carry-out.
Board member Elim Smith said he didn't like gas stations selling alcohol, but the permit was unanimously approved.
McClure said the company has alcohol permits in Hamilton, St. Joe and Grant counties and they're all grocery store permits.
The old building will be torn down Monday and the new one constructed, weather permitting, within 180 days.
The board also:
• Renewed a permit for Yoder Family Investments LLC, 1201 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, doing business as Wawasee Bowling Lanes. Jeremy Yoder, Cromwell, president; Dianne Yoder, Osceola, secretary.
• Approved a transfer of ownership from Garrett Sorts Saloon Inc., Mentone doing business as The Bulldog Saloon from John Garrett, Rochester, president and secretary, to Tim Carter.
• Approved a renewal for the Mentone tavern. Robert Neff, Mentone, president; Carla Roberts, Rochester, secretary.
Board members are Gordon Vanator, Ken Johnson and Elim Smith. [[In-content Ad]]
