The services are provided at two Warsaw station, at 801 E. Center St. and 425 Argonne Road; North Webster station at 750 S. Main St.; Etna Green station at 109 W. State St.; Bourbon station at 211 W. Center St.; and Leesburg station at 201 S. Main St.
Greg Cobb, Freedom Oil owner, said he came up with the idea after his mom, who has a walker, needed the services after having both of her hips replaced.
The services have been offered since the beginning of April.
The service is available to all people who drive a vehicle with a handicapped license plate or who have a handicapped tag displayed in their car window.
Located on pumps at the gas stations are a blue sign that says “Fuel Assistance Available,” along with a phone number to the store.
Handicapped customers will pull up to the pump, dial the store’s number and ask for assistance.
Service to the customer will be prompt as soon as the store becomes secure or when the cash register will be covered by another employee.
Those who are handicapped also can call ahead to indicate when they will stop by the store for service.
Handicapped customers can pay with cash at the pump or use their credit or debit card.
Lynn Michel, Freedom Express Center Street manager, said her customers have benefited from the program already.
“There have been regulars who have come into the gas station for the past 20 years and I see them with walkers and canes and this service will help them,” Michel said.
Michel said her mother is 77 years old and does not pump her own gas. She said her mother also will benefit from this service.
