MENTONE - Fred L. Richardson, 77, of 1324 19th Road, Tippecanoe, died at 6:35 a.m. Oct. 29, 2008, in his residence.

He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Athens, to Talfred and Sylvia Werner Richardson. On May 4, 1952, in Rochester, he married Virginia R. Scott, who survives.

He was a lifetime farmer and retired from the Tippecanoe Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a 1950 Talma High School graduate and served in the National Guard. He enjoyed attending various Hit and Miss Engine and Historic Power shows. He was an avid hunter and fisher and enjoyed various outdoor activities.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick (and spouse Jana) Richardson, Tippecanoe, and Randy (and spouse Darlene) Richardson, Mentone; a sister, Katherine Kizer, Michigan; a brother, Bill (and spouse Donna) Richardson, Schoolcraft, Mich.; two grandchildren, Crystal (and spouse Chuck) Shafer and John Maahs; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Richardson, who died in 1988; a sister, Annabelle Kohl; and three brothers, Bob, Cliff and James Richardson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Larry Kreft officiating. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
