SOUTH BEND - Frank "Jimmy" Kalka, 84, Warsaw, formerly of South Bend, departed this life April 16, 2009, at home with his loving family at his side.

In July 1949, he married Irene Hutchison, who preceded him in death May 9, 2008.

"Jimmy," as he was called by his family and friends, grew up in South Bend and was a retired mechanic. He was a World War II Army veteran.

He loved his family and always put them first.

He is survived by three sons: Francis Kalka, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Matthew Kalka, South Bend; and Craig (and spouse Julie) Kalka, Warsaw; a daughter, Deborah Haney, Warsaw; grandchildren: Andrew (and spouse Erin) Young, Justin Kalka and Sara Kalka, all of Warsaw; Jamie Scott, Pierceton; Debra Scott, Stuart, Fla.; a great-grandson, Cole Warren Young, who brought a smile to great dzia dzia's face daily; and two sisters, Regina Jedrzejewski and Marie Szulczyk, South Bend. He was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendrix Drive, South Bend. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a vigil service at 4 p.m.
