Four Vie For Winona Town Council Seat

WINONA LAKE- Four Winona Lake residents will vie for the Winona Lake Town Council seat that is vacant.

A Republican caucus to fill Jim Lancaster's Ward 3 seat will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Winona Lake Town Hall.

Lancaster resigned from the council Aug. 3. He relocated to the Netherlands to take on an international assignment with Biomet.

The candidates who are seeking the seat are Bruce Shaffner, James LeMasters, Jerold Nelson and Caleb France.

Shaffner is president of Shaffner & Shaffner Enterprise doing business as Ramada Plaza and Bennigan's. He also is owner of Wagon Wheel Productions Inc.

LeMasters is a technology teacher at Warsaw Community High School, and previously ran for the seat two times.

Nelson is a landlord for Winona Lake properties, and is a retired hospital administrator, attorney and licensed professional engineer. He previously ran for the seat.

France is owner of Cerulean Restaurant and Flying Fish Catering, Winona Lake.

Randy Girod, Kosciusko County Republican chairman, said each candidate will have three minutes to speak about their qualifications for the seat.

Candidates interested in applying for the seat had until Saturday to file with Girod.

"We have four eminently qualified candidates and it is exciting to see their interest in filling the seat," Girod said.

Precinct committee members Dave Wolkins, R. Wayne Snider, Janice Workman and Karen Wildman will select a person to fill the vacancy.

The person selected to fill Lancaster's seat will join council president Terry Howie, and councilmen Randy Swanson, Joy Lohse and Sue Gooding.[[In-content Ad]]
