Foundation Unveils Theme For Public Fundraising Campaign

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

"The Pillars of Our Future" was unveiled Wednesday as the theme for Kosciusko County Community Foundation's public fundraising campaign at its annual meeting.

The silent phase of the campaign began last year, and the public phase officially began Wednesday.

"We began the silent phase of the Pillars of Our Future Campaign in this last fiscal year, when we invited those folks closest to the Foundation to support the effort," said Light. "The board of directors and staff were first to step up in support of the campaign.[[In-content Ad]]"Our next step was to approach our friends at the Dekko Foundation to determine how best to structure our campaign. They invited us to submit a proposal for a cap grant. If we raise $665,000 by November 2008, Dekko Foundation will cap our campaign with a grant of $335,000. A bit different than a matching grant because we must raise the full $665,000 to receive the cap.

"We next approached current donors and past board members."

So far, the foundation has raised $481,524.63 in the silent campaign, leaving just $183,475.37 to be raised to get the cap grant from the Dekko Foundation.

Some of the highlights from last year's campaign were recognized at the meetings as well.

Highlights included:

n Total assets increased to $36.8 million, a 22.8 percent increase over total assets at the end of last fiscal year.

n Record contributions in excess of $4 million.

n Distribution of a record number of grant dollars of almost $1.7 million.

n 12 new funds were established.

n More than $293,000 in scholarships awarded.

n More than 120 community members volunteered to share their time through board service and committee activity.

n The annual Heart of Gold celebration recognized more than 40 people for their extraordinary acts of kindness and service.

n The youth philanthropy group, Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services, awarded more than $25,000 in educational grants and participated in community service. Their favorite community service project involved partnering with Grace Village residents to read and discuss the book, "The Ultimate Gift."

n The Good Samaritan Fund awarded nearly $136,000 to 421 individuals and families experiencing financial crisis because of a medical condition.

Officers for the next year also were announced by board member Tony Garza. The officers for the next year are: President Brad Bishop, Vice President Craig Tidball, Secretary Mindy Truex and Treasurer Jerry Yeager.
