SYRACUSE – A Fort Wayne eye surgeon has purchased Oakwood Inn, his office confirmed this morning.

Dr. John Rex Parent, who also owns a home on Lake Wawasee, recently bought the historic property in Syracuse.

Previous prospective buyer Buckingham Properties had backed out in April amid contentions with the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation over the proposed number of piers the company wanted to install.

Residential property surrounding Oakwood Inn was annexed by Syracuse last year. The town is awaiting sale of the Inn to finance infrastructure improvements.

The Inn itself has been shuttered for years because of financial problems with former owner the Oakwood Foundation.[[In-content Ad]]
