Garber had a 41-year tenure at the newspaper before his retirement on Dec. 31, 1987.
Garber lived in Warsaw nearly all of his life and was a staunch supporter of Warsaw Tiger Basketball.
After returning from a three-year stint in the Air Corps (1943-46), Garber was named sports editor of the newspaper in February 1946. He also covered the "city beat" and was named editor of the Times-Union in the mid-1950s.
