Can you name the player from the county that is currently involved with the Miami Heat?[[In-content Ad]]Can you name the coach from the county that has 600-plus career wins?

If you answered Whitey Bell, Chet Kammerer and Bill Patrick, you're right.

If you didn't know the answers to those questions, then maybe a unique get together planned for June 30 at Warsaw Community High School is for you.

The event will take place in the afternoon and in the evening at WCHS and will feature an evening dinner.

There will be memorabilia, pictures, films and guest speakers that will honor Kosciusko County basketball that was played prior to school consolidation.

The focus of the event will be the 1950s, however, there will be attention given to the 1930s, 1940s and 1960s.

"It's a reunion recognizing basketball prior to consolidation, with the emphasis on the 1950s," said Jim Irwin, who played for the Atwoo Greyhounds, and whose son, Rob Irwin, is the current coach of the Whitko Wildcats. "It will be divided into two sessions. One will look at old films and audio of Milo Clase (from WRSW) and in the evening we'll recognize people."

Irwin said a number of people are on the committee trying to put the event together, including Aaron and Al Rovenstine, Jerry Nelson, Dick Long, Kent Adams, Norm Hagg and Bill Patrick, among others.

"It's going to be open to the public, we especially want the older folks to come," said Irwin. "It'll be like a class reunion of sorts. But it's open to the public, anyone can come. Older folks will really appreciate it, but if you're just a basketball fan and want a history lesson, you're more than welcome to come out.

Plans are still being made, and more information about the event will appear in the Times-Union as it gets closer.

"This is something we're really excited about," said Irwin. "I think a lot of people will enjoy it."
