Former Pop-Up Elysian Plans Longer Stay

From online jewelry sales to a pop-up shop to a permanent spot for selling fashion apparel and beauty products, it’s been a series of small steps for Elysian Co. owner Elise Harness Wright.
Wright opened the store at 110 E. Center St. in November as part of the pop-up shops program, and was encouraged by her customers to stay. After some renovations and an expansion of her offerings, she’s holding a grand re-opening Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
“A lot of my customers said, ‘There’s nothing quite like this in Warsaw, we hope you stay,’” said Wright, after noting that she had a dream to run her own store but wasn’t sure if she could do it. “That was the push I needed to sign the lease and stay. It was what determined that for me.”
She describes the renovated store – the former Meridian Title office, opened up into a single large space with a cool grey paint scheme replacing the butternut yellow – as a cross between an Anthropologie and an Urban Outfitters.
“I wanted to bring that vibe to Warsaw, bring a mix of that to Warsaw,” she said.
Wright and her friends and family had a hand in everything from the renovations to the furnishings to designing the store logo. The store name, from the heavenly fields of Greek myth, came from a suggestion shared by a friend.
“There’s more I want to do with the space,” such as replace the carpeting and find a use for the basement, she noted. “I started the business debt-free and I want to keep it that way, so the changes have been coming slowly as time and money allow.”
The temporary holiday shop was part of a short-term-lease initiative sponsored by the Warsaw Community Development Corp., the Kosciusko Chamber and private landlords. It followed two other short-term shops Wright set up in Warsaw and an online jewelry store she started in March.
Now she sells men’s, women’s and children’s clothing as well as accessories, boots, decor and bath and beauty products. The 15 or so brands she carries range from name brands – including Free People, Giving Keys and Herbivore – to items made locally or even by friends, such as C. Free jewelry. Wright also designs a few things herself, she added, showing off her inspirational and “Home Grown Indiana” tops.
“I care about the brands I carry,” she said. “Basically what I love is what I carry. It’s what I’d wear. That’s what drives the vision of this store, I think.”
The re-opening celebration will feature sales and a hot cocoa and coffee bar. Other upcoming events include a “GALentine’s Day” party Feb. 13 from 10 am. to 8 p.m. with snacks, a photo booth and a raffle.
Elysian Co. is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Find more online at www.elysianco.com or call the store at 574-267-2259.[[In-content Ad]]
