Former Fireman Faces Forgery, Theft Charges

A former Warsaw volunteer fireman faces forgery and theft charges for allegedly taking money from the department's account.

Scott David Reed, 39, of 203 W. Section St., Claypool, is accused of taking money from the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department's account for his personal use. Reed has been the secretary/treasurer for the Warsaw Fire Department since 2006.

According to a report from the Warsaw Police Department, Reed allegedy admitted that he took between $700 and $1,000 from the Volunteer Fire Department fund. However, he was unable to produce documentation for more than $5,000 withdrawn from the account.

Some of the cash withdrawals reportedly were meant for donations for the Salvation Army and the Sgt. Jeff Shaw Memorial Fund.

Members of the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department noticed that Reed had made several unauthorized cash withdrawals on the account, and contacted the police.

Police have forwarded information about the case to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office seeking charges for forgery and theft due to the incident..[[In-content Ad]]
