“And the cupboards were bare” is a problem that Combined Community Services and The Salvation Army are being relieved of to some degree.
Each of our organizations recently received additional monies from the United Way of Kosciusko County from the board of director’s discretionary fund. CCS and The Salvation Army each received $11,857 to be used toward meeting the needs of our clients for food first, but also for utility and rental assistance.
“This current economy has created a much greater demand for assistance from these organizations,” United Way Executive Director Patricia Coy said. “Each of these programs offer countywide services and each have experienced a recent lack of food to offer to their clients.”
Both of our organizations had been reaching out to the community this spring, asking for help with food donations. We also have tight funding available for meeting client’s needs in the areas of utility and rental assistance. The additional contribution to each of our agencies by the United Way will help bolster the ability to serve clients in the near-term. The demand will continue until the poor economy and unemployment trends turn around.
Anyone wishing to contact either of our organizations for donations, or for assistance, may do so by calling Combined Community Services at 574-269-6019, and the Salvation Army at 574-267-5361.
