PIERCETON – Florence L. Miller, 92, of Leesburg, formerly of Pierceton, died at 7:12 a.m. Oct. 11, 2011, at Whitley-Parkview Hospital, Columbia City.
She was born Oct. 26, 1918, in Woodburn, to Oscar and Bertha Spencer Slusher. In 1937, she married Howard Elder who passed away in 1957. She married Max Miller in 1959, who survives in Leesburg.
She was a resident of Leesburg and Pierceton. She has spent winters in Florida since 1985. She retired from Weatherhead (Dana), Columbia City, after 20 years. She was a life member of the Pierceton American Legion Post 258 Auxiliary for 49 years. She was a past president and secretary. She was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 1126 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 1339, both of Warsaw.
Also surviving are four sons: Dan (and spouse Jan) Elder, Pierceton, Jim (and spouse Ruth) Elder, Warsaw; Max (and spouse Violet) Elder, Pierceton, and Glen (and spouse Sandra) Elder, Mentone; a daughter, Carol (and spouse Kent) Bragg, Morristown, Tenn; three sisters, Vivian Blue, Nappanee; Zelda Heintzelman, Larwill and Joy Kyle, Goshen; one brother, Irvan Slusher, Greenwood; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Chaplain Bob Herman officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
