Names of the five males apprehended Friday night in Kosciusko County, after allegedly robbing a Columbia City bank, were released Monday afternoon by the Whitley County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
The suspects are: Michael T. Carter, 23; Karleton J. James, 24; Deandra M. Armour, 25; Dontrell O. Moore, 21; and Anton J. Alexander, 25. The suspects are believed to be from Fort Wayne.
Armour, Moore and Alexander are being held at the Whitley County jail while Carter and James are being held in the Huntington County Jail.
Each has been charged by the Whitley County prosecutor's office with two counts of robbery and two counts of theft. Alexander also was charged with possessing a handgun without a license. Bonds for all five men were set at $100,000.
Alexander was convicted in 1997 for possession of cocaine. James has two convictions for carrying a handgun without a license. Armour was convicted in 1997 of robbery and receiving stolen automobile parts.
On Friday, at approximately 12:03 p.m., law enforcement officers were called to the People's Federal Savings Bank, 507 N. Main St., Columbia City, to respond to a report of an armed robbery.
Tellers reported the bank had been robbed by two men, both carrying handguns, according to a press release from the Whitley County prosecutor's office. A customer of the bank had her purse taken from her during the robbery but no one was injured during the incident. The bank employees were able to describe the vehicle the suspects fled in.
The suspects left the bank and got in a vehicle with three other men and fled west on U.S. 30. Several of the suspects were caught near Pierceton, where money and clothing also were found.
The alleged suspects used several cars for the robbery and chase, including one left a block from the robbery and another left at a gas station in Pierceton. Police pursued a different vehicle into Warsaw then back into Pierceton.
As the suspects neared Pierceton, the men began to jump out of the cars. All were eventually caught without further incident.
The pursuit included law enforcement agents from the Kosciusko and Whitley counties' sheriff's departments and the Warsaw, Pierceton, South Whitley, Syracuse and Claypool police departments. The Indiana State Police and ISP helicopter and conservation officers assisted.
This was the second bank robbery in the area within a week. On July 24, Lake City Bank, 108 S. First St., Pierceton, also was robbed. [[In-content Ad]]
