Keith Reinholt wants to attract people to downtown Warsaw and highlight the city's businesses.

That is why he is organizing "First Fridays of the Month" events in Warsaw.

He said he got the idea from the city of Goshen that offers activities in its town the first Fridays of each month. He wants to bring the idea to Warsaw.

"Downtown merchants will put on special events to draw people to the downtown during First Fridays," Reinholt said. "This will be a social event and give people a reason to come downtown, and this is the idea behind it."[[In-content Ad]]He said this past winter he was in Goshen at a business and they informed him about their First Fridays events.

"I started brainstorming and thought, 'Wow, why couldn't we have something like this in Warsaw?'" Reinholt said.

Reinholt said he has been working with Cindy Dobbins, Warsaw Community Development Corp. executive director, in planning the event.

He said he also has contacted downtown Warsaw business owners about the event who have been supportive. They have had two planning meetings.

The first event is 5 to 8 p.m. June 4. The theme is "Taste of Downtown Warsaw."

Highlighting the event will be live music performances on the north side of the Kosciusko County Courthouse square. Local bands Sock Monkeys and Fair Fjola will perform at 7 p.m.

Reinholt describes the Sock Monkeys as an upbeat, eclectic band.

He said Fair Fjola is an Americana and indie-sounding band with a blend of pop, folk and rock.

People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, and downtown restaurants will offer specials that evening.

Reinholt said he plans to have the First Fridays events until winter, and each First Friday will have a theme.
