The theme for First Friday in February is “Fire and Ice.”
The event is Feb. 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Warsaw, where 300- and 600-pound blocks of ice will be carved by Michiana Ice Carvers Association.
Setup will begin in the downtown at 10 a.m. and carving will begin at 2 p.m.
There are 32 ice sculptures so far that will be on display, according to Paula Bowman, downtown events coordinator.
There is still time to sponsor ice carvings. Applications can be found at www.warsawcdc.org
The centerpiece this year will be an ice sculpture replica of the Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation helicopter that will be at the corner of Center and Buffalo streets. It is a thank you to the foundation for their sponsorship of First Friday.
If the weather permits, there will be a snowman making contest for children and adults on the courthouse lawn. Participants are advised to bring their own snow shovels.
Kosciusko County 4-H Junior Leaders will host its annual chili supper fundraiser in the Annex building, 202 W. Main St., formerly First Christian Church. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids 5 to 12. Kids under 5 get in for free. Several churches will provide warming stations and offer hot chocolate.
Upcoming First Fridays include “Culinary Arts” in March; “Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle” in April; “Musical May” in May and the June First Friday will feature bronze sculptures that will be on display June 7 through Sept. 27 in downtown Warsaw.[[In-content Ad]]
