First Day Of School Just Around Corner

It's that time again - time to get the kids ready for the new school year, sign them up for classes and pay the book rental fees.

And, in case you're wondering when you can sign them up and what the book rental fees will be, following is the information provided by each school system. (Lunch prices are included where they were provided.)

Tippecanoe Valley Schools

School starts for teachers on Aug. 19 and for students Aug. 20.

Registrations dates are Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Aug. 10 from noon to 8 p.m. New high school students should register Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Book rental fees are: kindergarten, $35; grade 1, $89; grade 2, $86; grade 3, $87; grades 4 and 5, $82; grade 6, $82.15; grade 7, $96.90; and grade 8, $91.80.

School hours for elementary students at Burket are 8 a.m. to 2:50 p.m., and for Akron and Mentone students are 8:20 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Kindergarten students at Burket go from 8 to 10:50 a.m. At Akron and Mentone, morning kindergartners go from 8:20 to 11:10 a.m., and afternoon kindergartners go from 12:20 to 3:10 p.m.

Middle school students attend from 8:08 a.m. to 2:59 p.m., and high school students are scheduled from 8:05 a.m. to 3:04 p.m.

Breakfast prices (per day) at Tippecanoe Valley schools are 75 cents for full price, 30 cents reduced.

Lunches at elementary schools cost $1.30 per day and at the middle and high schools are $1.35 per day. Adult lunches are $2 per day.

Whitko Community Schools

Teacher orientation day is Aug. 16, and students begin Aug. 17.

Parents may register their students from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5, 9 and 10; and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 6.

Returning students are encouraged to register on Aug. 5 and 6; students new to Whitko schools should register on Aug. 9 and 10.

Book rental fees are: kindergarten, $56; grade 1, $76; grade 2, $79; grade 3, $81; grade 4, $93; grade 5, $79; grade 6, $82.02; grade 7, $89.26; grade 8, $91.61.

Lunch prices for the 1999-00 school year will be: $1.20 for elementary students, $1.30 for middle school, $1.45 for high school, $2 for adults, and $1 for mini. Reduced price is 40 cents.

Breakfast prices are 80 cents for students, $1 for adults and 30 cents for reduced.

Warsaw Community Schools

The first student day will be Aug. 24.

Elementary registration: kindergarten only, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; elementary, Aug. 9 and 11, noon to 6 p.m.; Aug. 10 and 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Secondary registration: Aug. 9 and 11, 1 to 7 p.m.; and Aug. 10 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Book rental fees are: kindergarten, $29; grade 1, $84; grade 2, $74; grade 3, $76; grade 4, $69; grade 5, $66; grade 6, $67; middle and high school fees will vary with the student's class schedule.

Meal prices for all students are $1 for breakfast, $1.50 for lunch.

Triton Schools

Registration dates for students in Triton schools are: Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; and Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Book rental fees are: kindergarten, $52.41; grade 1, $119.03; grade 2, $111.65; grade 3, $99.95; grade 4, $91.72; grade 5, $89.12; and grade 6, $93.32.

Wawasee Community Schools

Registration at Wawasee High School for the 1999-00 school year will be at the high school Aug. 6 and 9 from noon to 7 p.m. and Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At Wawasee Middle School, Milford School, Milford Middle and Elementary School, Syracuse Elementary and North Webster Elementary: registration will be Aug. 9 and 10 from noon to 7 p.m.

To expedite registration, parents should bring with them: parent's and child's Social Security numbers; doctor's name, address and telephone number; two names and telephone numbers of people to reach in case of an emergency; and parents' workplace(s) and telephone number(s).

The first day of school is Aug. 18.

Wawasee High School students in grades 9, 10 and 11 also will have their school pictures taken during registration hours at the high school.

Wawasee book rental fees are as follows: kindergarten, $46.35; reading readiness, $69.80; grade 1, $85.40; grade 2, $87.35; grade 3, $92.35; grade 4, $99.18; grade 5, $80.26; grade 6, $116.23; grade 7, $116.68; grade 8, $95.31. [[In-content Ad]]
