July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Fire damaged Kinder Manufacturing Sunday evening in Boggs Industrial Park, Warsaw.
The Warsaw Police and Fire departments are investigating the reportedly suspicious oringin of the fire.
Smoke was spotted at 5:58 p.m. Sunday coming from the back of the Kinder building. A Warsaw police officer said the fire was spreading to the wall of the loading dock area when he arrived.
The fire apparently started in a trash compactor outside the building then spread inside through overhead garage doors, according to Warsaw Fire Chief Ken Shepherd.
The sprinkler system activated when the fire spread inside and helped contain the blaze. The fire crews spent about 45 minutes at the scene.
Shepherd said the fire was "started by unknown means by an unknown person."
The fire department also responded to a fire in a dumpster on the northwest corner of the Little League baseball diamonds nearby.
Investigators believe the two fires may be related.
Damage to the Kinder building is estimated at $150,000 because of heavy smoke and fire damage.
None of the 17 firefighters who responded to the scene were injured. There was reportedly no one in the building at the time of the fire. [[In-content Ad]]
