Do you know what you and your family can do to prevent home fires?

The Red Cross is ready to help. You can also take steps to prevent them from ever occuring. Make sure all sources of fuel including paper and cloting are at least three feet away from heat sources, such as space heaters. Never leave burning candles unattended; and keep matches and lighters away from children.

Four out of five Americans are unaware that home fires are the most common disaster threat. The American Red Cross reminds you to safeguard your family and home by taking simple steps to stay save in case of a home fire. Install smoke alarms outside each sleeping area and on additional levels of you home.

Test each smoke alarm once a month and replace batteries at least once a year. Know at least two exits from every room and practice escape routes. To learn more, contact the American Red Cross Kosciusko County chapter at 574-267-5244.
