The deer-reduction efforts started Oct. 1 and run through Jan. 6. There are 24 archers participating in the efforts.
There were 900 pounds of ground venison donated during last year's hunt to Our Father's House and the Silver Lake Food pantry, according to Farmer's and Hunters Feeding the Hungry north central coordinator Doug Martin.[[In-content Ad]]FHFH will pay for the processing fee and is accepting donations from the community and businesses to help with the funds to process the deer meat, Martin said.
FHFH is a Christian outreach ministry that was started in 1997 to provide venison and other game for soup kitchens and food pantries across America.
"The program would not be possible without farmers who provide the land, and hunters who donate their deer, and the businesses and individuals who donate the money needed to pay for the processing," Martin said.
The meat from the deer hunt can be donated to Bales Butcher Shop, 504 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. The shop can be reached at 574-457-3312.
The deer must be skinned and field dressed before being donated.
Individuals who donate a whole deer or $10 for the processing automatically will be entered into a drawing for a Knight Wolverine muzzleloader and a Browning BPS Rifled Deer Hunter.
To donate financially for the processing fee, call Martin at 800-727-7360. For more information about the organization, visit www.fhfh.org
