October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is great that NFL Teams are recognizing and showing their support for a cure. So please wear pink to support the cure.

The month of October is also "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month" too. This is extremely important too especially in these economic times. Many dogs are left abandoned at homes because of the foreclosures or taken to the Animal Shelters. If you canít adopt a shelter dog, please try to donate your time, a little money, or supplies to your local shelter.

Also, Friday is "National Feral Cat" day.

Many individuals don't realize what a feral cat is, so I have taken the definition from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

A feral cat is an unowned and untamed domestic cat. Feral cats are born in urban, suburban, or rural areas, and basically anywhere that people reside.

They should not be confused with wildcats, as they are not wild animals. A stray cat (or alley cat), though unowned, still exhibits temperament similar to that of a pet.

Strictly defined, feral cats are born, and live without direct human contact. Therefore, they revert back to a "wild" temperament, with a fear of humans.

If you have a feral cat (male) in your neighborhood and are able to catch it, please take the time and money please take them to your local veterinarian to be neutered. This will help in the population control of feral cats. Also, the Neuter Scooter does come to Wabash and Kosciusko Counties. So please help us to control the feral cat population.
