Fellowship Missions residents and those in need in the community received free pizza Sunday from Little Caesars Love Kitchen.
Approximately 125 people received pizza that was made in a kitchen on a semi trailer. Each person received two free slices of pepperoni pizza.
The mobile pizza kitchen has a walk-in cooler and refrigerator and ovens. There also is a hot box to keep the pizza warm and a serving window.
There are two semis that travel to churches, homeless shelters and food pantries and give out free pizza. The semis have aided with feeding volunteers of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and the Oklahoma City bombing.
There were four employees from the Warsaw restaurant and an employee from the Plymouth store who made the pizza.
Kristin Wilk, Little Caesars area supervisor, said it’s good to give back to the community.
“Pizza is a good way to do that,” Wilk said.
The Little Caesars mascot, The Little Caesar Man, was on hand and passed out sunglasses, pencils and rulers.
Fellowship Missions residents appreciated the free pizza.
Scott Wyrick has been at Fellowship Missions for three days and came from Michigan.
“I’ve been in and out of homelessness and been around the United States,” Wyrick said.
He said he has been looking for a job and went to the South Bend shelter. There were no beds available so he looked up Fellowship Missions online and went there.
He said he was thankful for the pizza.
“This meets part of my basic needs of food, shelter and clothing,” Wyrick said.
Tim Coplen, who has been a Fellowship Missions resident for the past four months, said he found out about the shelter through a friend.
“I didn’t have a place to stay and it’s great Little Caesars can help Fellowship Missions out,” Coplen said.
Caleb Wilson, a former Fellowship Missions resident, moved to the shelter in November but moved out in July.
“I came from Syracuse and had no job or car and didn’t know anyone in town,” Wilson said.
He now lives in Warsaw and has a job.
“It’s amazing seeing Little Caesars come out to support the shelter,” Wilson said.
Eric Lane, Fellowship Missions executive director, said there are 25 men, 19 women and five children currently being served at the shelter.
“When Little Caesars contacted us I didn’t even know they did this, and it’s neat to see a corporation give back to their community,” Lane said.
Jeffrey Logsdon, Warsaw Little Caesars assistant manager, said it’s great to give back.
“We are trying to make a difference for this good cause,” Logsdon said.
Forty-two pizzas were made.
Jeff O’Mera, who has driven the Love Kitchen for two years, said the pizza provides a nice break from ordinance food served at shelters.[[In-content Ad]]
