Fellowship Missions provides a haven for men struggling with homelessness and encourages them to get back on their feet.

Eric Lane, Fellowship Missions director, started the non-profit organization June 1.

"We have a lot of people who are displaced in our community and we want to offer a loving and safe Christ-centered environment in which they can grow not only physically but spiritually as well."

Lane said it is biblical that people need to take care of those in the community and need to be the outstretched hands and feet of Christ.

Fellowship Missions currently offers transitional housing for men struggling with homelessness, depression and drug and alcohol abuse.

The four-room home opened in April on Buffalo Street, Warsaw, and was donated to the organization.

The home currently houses six men ranging in ages from mid 20s to 62.

Those who stay have a bed to sleep in, shower and laundry facilities, and meals are provided.

Those staying at Fellowship Missions have taken short-term missions trips to Victory Temple Church in Gulf Port, Miss., that was hit by Hurricane Katrina. They went for a week to do framing work on a church in Mississippi and painting.

There are five of the six men who stay at Fellowship Missions that are employed. Their families are able to visit them at the home.

"This is a place for them to get back up on their feet and a lot of them feel people have given up on them," Lane said.

Fellowship Missions rents the home, and the average stay for the men is a year.

Lane said Fellowship Missions is looking for a home to house women dealing with homelessness.

"At some point the vision is to have a single location to house transitional housing and shelter in one building," Lane said.

Beginning Oct. 1, an emergency temporary shelter will be opened again and be overseen by Fellowship Missions. The goal is to have the shelter operate for six months and have local churches and individuals help with the shelter, Lane said.

Lane said Fellowship Missions is currently looking for a location to house the temporary shelter.

New Life Christian Church, Warsaw Community Church and Christ's Covenant Church housed the shelter before.

Fellowship Missions offers a free dinner twice a month called "The Gathering." It is the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Our Father's House. The dinner is for anyone in the community that needs food.
