This week area farmers throughout the United States are stepping forward promoting the importance of Food Check-Out Week.

Food Check-Out Week started Sunday and runs through Saturday. It is devoted to helping teach Americans how to stretch their food dollars with healthy, nutritious food.[[In-content Ad]]Over the past few years, the Kosciusko County Farm Bureau has participated in various Food Check-Out events. This year, they will be providing radio announcements on area radio stations. People will be able to learn more about stretching their grocery dollar, and facts about Indiana agriculture by listening.

There also will be a trivial question each day, and the winner of the question will receive a $25 gift certificate to Marsh Supermarket.

"Most American families earn enough income by mid-February to pay for their food for an entire year," said Lenore Lewis, Kosciusko County Farm Bureau County Woman's leader. "Since many Americans are feeling an economic squeeze, they may be eating out less and preparing more meals at home."

Lewis said it is important to shop smart by purchasing healthy foods that fit within one's budget.
