Far-Right Propaganda

The foolishness of the far-right propagandists knows no bounds. As proof I present Rush Limbaugh, patron saint of the far-right ditto heads. Who, as the people of Egypt rise up against the Dictator Hosni Mubarak, decided to refer to President Obama as "Pharaoh Obama" on his radio program. Why pharaoh? Well, pharaoh is currently the term that the Egyptian people are using when referring to the Dictator Mubarak. Pharaoh is an obvious reference to the fact that Dictator Mubarak has no checks or balances on his power, no real "legal" opposition to his reign, no term limits, and that he was preparing his son for dynastic succession.

Somehow Rush Limbaugh feels that it is fair to compare President Obama with "President" Mubarak. In Egypt they don't have free and fair elections. In America we do. Unless you accept the premise of the GOP that the only elections that are free, fair, and valid are the ones they win. In Egypt, Mubarak was "elected" in sham elections where opposition was restricted. In America, President Obama was elected by the people after a brutal presidential campaign with no such restrictions. A fact that Limbaugh and his ilk still refuse to accept. But referring to President Obama as pharaoh is yet another example of how the right's irrational dislike of Obama has clouded their views.

The fact that Limbaugh, and others who share his opinion of President Obama believe this, should remove whatever credibility the buffoon had left. Who has President Obama oppressed in America? What political opposition group has been outlawed by the Obama administration in America? Which political opponents have been rounded up, arrested, tortured and executed? Where are the water cannons and tear gas? Which political opposition rallies were confronted with security forces and the military? Who was denied their free speech, their right to assemble peacefully or their right to vote? If anything it has been the progressive movements that have faced this treatment from the right wing in this country. The civil rights movement is just one example.

In the last three years we have seen right wing-led Anti-Obama rallies all over the country. Some of the participants carried signs with veiled threats and calling the president worse names than pharaoh. But at no time was the military called in to arrest the leaders. At no time were police called to break up rallies and arrest the sign carrying protesters. The Tea Party disrupted town hall meetings and public debates and at no time were they rounded up. Where was the repression? No rights were denied those who opposed President Obama. Surely a pharaoh would not put up with opposition.

Historically, pharaohs have had unchecked power. But in Congress major elements of President Obama's agenda, an agenda that a majority of the American people voted for in a free election, were stalled in Congress by the opposition. The opposition was met with talk of compromise and unity not arrests warrants and violence. And every piece of legislation went through a vote in which just a simple majority was needed but a higher threshold was met to appease the opposition. And every step of the way the president's call for bi-partisanship was ignored by the opposition. At no point was the opposition denied a vote, threatened with arrest or tortured. So much for "Pharaoh Obama" and his unchecked power.

Limbaugh has once again shown his irrational hatred for our president. An irrational hatred that is shared by many on the right.

On a happier note, the relative silence from Camp Palin has been pleasant. I guess you can't see Egypt from Alaska.
