Family Farms

My family and I have a one-year-old permitted sheltered animal feeding facility, otherwise known as a CAFO, in Kosciusko County. We utilized the Beginning Farmer and Rancher programs to assist in providing financial support to our family farm project.

For those that support the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act of 2011, we thank you as the USDA financial support programs are the backbone to this Act. Thus by definition there are no “Factory Farms” in the state and we are all “Family Farms.”

Since the opposers of CAFOs support the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Act of 2011, my family would politely ask you to remove the “Family Farms not Factory Farms” signs that are displayed in the county. These are a direct insult to all the families that work hard to finance and build a sustainable form of animal production. My family takes great pride in the fact that we can assist in providing a quality protein source, in the form of pork, to over 32,000 people per year from our family farm.

To stop the unfortunate misinterpretation of our business and the regulations, I would welcome anyone to meet with my family to review the regulation guidelines we abide by daily.
