Former Warsaw Clerk-Treasurer Elaine Call is seeking a Warsaw City Council at-large seat.

Call said she filed for the seat late Tuesday afternoon.

Filing for the seat began Jan. 2, and continues until Feb. 18 at noon.

The primary is May 3, and the general election is Nov. 8.

Offices up for election in the May primary are Warsaw mayor and clerk-treasurer; Warsaw City Council districts 1-5 and two at-large seats; town of Winona Lake clerk-treasurer and town council seats wards 1-5; and Syracuse town clerk and Syracuse Town Council districts 3, 4 and 5.

The city council at-large seats are currently held by Joe Thallemer and Kyle Babcock.

Thallemer has filed for Warsaw mayor, and Babcock said he does not know what his plans are, but plans to make a decision in the next few weeks.

Call previously served as Warsaw's clerk-treasurer for 26 years, resigning March 4, 2010, to spend more time with her family. She began serving as clerk-treasurer in January 1984.

Lynne Christiansen was selected during a caucus in February 2010 to replace Call as Warsaw's clerk-treasurer. Christiansen has filed for the clerk-treasurer seat.

Call said she misses working in a government setting.

"I thought it was a good opportunity to run for the at-large seat with Joe running for mayor, and I am sure others may file for the at-large seats," Call said.

"I think I have the past experience and education and would benefit the city in its budget and legislative decision matters."

Call said if she is elected she would like to focus on financial stability for the city.[[In-content Ad]]
