Ex-EMS Director Sentenced

The former director of South Central Emergency Medical Service was sentenced Monday to 1-1/2 years in prison for theft, a Class D felony.

Kurt Owens, 34, previously pleaded guilty to taking money collected for a 9/11 relief fund after the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.

Owens took between $5,000 and $6,000 in funds intended for relief efforts and he also was accused of writing checks on the EMS account for his personal use. [[In-content Ad]]
