She was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Nokomis, Ill., to Wesley Melton and Edna Buchholz Hardy. On June 3, 1941, she married Ralph Everett Hamell, who preceded her in death Aug. 20, 2013.
She was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 46 years where she was a homemaker and attended Christ’s Covenant Church of Warsaw. She worked for a number of years as a cook and housekeeper for Eli Lilly in Syracuse.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Larry Dean (and spouse Mary) Hamell, DeKalb, Ill., and Lester Allen (and spouse Karen) Hamell, Kimmell; her four daughters: Joyce Jean (and spouse Ronald) Harris, Plymouth; Janice Marie (and spouse Robert) Meyer, Waterloo; Jo Ellen (and spouse Thomas) Wagner, Wabash; and Jill Annette (and spouse Joseph) Chalk, Warsaw; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Donald Hardy, Florida. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Rod Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
